GRETNA, Va. (WDBJ) - We all need a little break from everyday life; technology, responsibilities, and even the same scenery. If you’re looking for a way to do that while getting a “farm experience” without all the cleanup, leave it to Funky Fleece Farm.
Amanda, her husband Trae, and their daughter Ady enjoy showing their alpacas to anyone who wants to visit the farm. “It started with my husband telling me we couldn’t have any more dogs,” said Amanda. But what Amanda heard was, ‘Let’s start an alpaca farm!” “We built a barn in our backyard, we bought four, one was pregnant, and so we had five, now we have fifteen.”
The farm sits on 44-plus acres. Trae is in charge of all the maintenance around the farm, while 14-year-old Ady takes care of showing off the alpacas and winning awards. “A lot of people don’t know about alpacas. People can come out and get that farm experience. We do birthday parties, we also travel to provide the birthday experience, weddings, wedding receptions, bridal and engagement portraits, and agritourism. Folks can see animals, and take part in the sunset experience. This is where we have furniture set out in the middle of the pasture, wine, a couch, and animals all around.”
Funky Fleece Farm also has a store on site and we’re told once you buy alpaca socks… you’ll never go back to the regulars!
The family has plans to expand and is encouraging you to “alpaca” your bags and book a tour to the farm today!
