Thank you for visiting the City of Danville, Tourism web site and for reviewing our privacy policy. We will collect no personal information about you except for statistical purposes when you visit our web site unless you choose to provide that information to us. Links: The purpose of the City’s Tourism web site is to provide information about the City’s from a tourism perspective. The Tourism web site may provide links to Web sites outside the Tourism Web site that also serves this purpose. The City is not responsible for and does not endorse the information on any linked web site unless the Tourism web site states otherwise. The following criteria will be used to decide whether to grant requests for City web site links. 

The Tourism web site will provide links to web sites for: 

  1. Governmental and educational institutions. 
  2. Organizations with some relationship to the City (including but not limited to: organizations contracting with the City, organizations sponsoring City activities or programs, and organizations participating in City activities or programs). 
  3. Generally recognized community organizations 
  4. Organizations providing information about art, cultural, and sporting activities in the City’s area. 
  5. Organizations providing information about employment opportunities in the City’s area. 
  6. Organizations providing information about tourist attractions in the City’s area. 

The Tourism web site will not provide links to a web site for: 

  1. Candidates for local, state or federal offices. 
  2. Political organizations or other organizations advocating a position on a local, state or federal issue. 
  3. Corporate or other for-profit organizations unless they fit any of the criteria stated above. 
  4. Individual or personal home pages. 

Statistical Information: We analyze user traffic patterns on our web portal from information automatically provided by your browser when you visit our site. We use the statistical information gathered in the web log files to measure site and server performance and continually improve the content of our sites to better serve you. The City does not use the information automatically collected to ascertain personally identifiable information. 

The information collected in the web log files includes the following: 

The date and time of the visit. If the web site was reached by using a link from another web site, the name of the referring site is recorded. 

If the web site was reached using web search software, the word or phrase searched for is recorded. 

The type of computer operating system used.

The Internet domain name each visitor uses. This is the name of the visitor’s Internet Service Provider. 

The Internet Protocol address (IP address) of the computer used to access the web site. This number is needed by the web server to send each page to the visitor who requested it. 

The data collected in these log files is analyzed to determine how visitors use the web site. This includes, but is not limited to: 

Counting the number of visitors for a given time period. 

Measuring the average number of pages viewed during each visit. 

Measuring the average length of time each visit lasts. 

Identifying the most frequently visited pages.

Information provided by you: Information volunteered by you through your filling out of our optional online feedback form is used to help us enhance our web sites. We do not sell, rent, or publish any of our visitors’ personal or private information. We do not reveal specific information about subscribers or other personally identifiable data to unaffiliated third parties for their independent use, except if required to do so by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act or other law. In addition, we endeavor to restrict employee access to any personal information except where necessary to perform required duties. 

Site security: CivicPlus, the City of Danville third party web hosting vendor, monitors network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or to otherwise cause damage to the site. Anyone using this web site expressly consents to such monitoring. CivicPlus has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under ours and their control. CivicPlus is located in Manhattan, Kansas.
