You don’t have to go far for award-winning arts and culture in our region, thanks to incredible performances found right here in SoSi!

The Danville Concert Association (DCA) is the area’s oldest presenter of professional musical and performing artists from around the world. Dating from the early 1950s, it has its roots in the Civic Music Association that launched Danville’s first season of music in 1929. The DCA launched their first season in the fall of 1953 with opera.

Smokestack Theatre Company is a nonprofit organization serving Danville, Pittsylvania County and the surrounding region. Their theatre artist ensemble is dedicated to creating quality, exciting and transformative theatre for the cultural enrichment of the entire community. They strive to enhance our community through education and outreach to adults and children, providing innovative instruction and creative expression to inspire another generation of theatre artists.

The Historic North Theatre in Danville opened again in 2012 as a live professional performing arts center. World Champion Illusionist Wayne Alan books top celebrity touring concerts and shows to perform in this 500-seat venue. The theatre also hosts various productions, festivals, and special events. In 2005 this beautiful 1947 live movie theatre underwent a complete $3.5 million restoration.

Danville Symphony Orchestra, which will celebrate its 31st anniversary in 2023, performs regionally, presenting a myriad of classical programming of the original works of the “Masters” and worthy lighter fare in our pops presentations.

The Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History is located in the Sutherlin Mansion on Millionaires' Row in Danville, Virginia. Featuring a number of art and historical exhibits, the DMFAH dive deeps into SoSi’s rich past and culture! Did you know that the DMFAH has been recognized as one of the three sites on the prestigious U.S. Civil Rights Trail in Virginia?
